Tuesday, November 14, 2006 And the NL Cy Young Winner is...![]() The Baseball Writers Association of America today announced that Brandon Webb has been voted the winner of the 2006 National League Cy Young Award. Webb received 15 of a possible 32 first place votes, totaling 103 points based on a 5-3-1 point system, with San Diego’s Trevor Hoffman finishing second with 77 points, including 12 first place votes. St. Louis starter Chris Carpenter was third in the voting with 63 points, including two first place votes.

This year's award was a battle of good pitchers without a great one in the bunch. Webb wins by default with a year that would not even be noticed many years.
I don't know about default. He had 9 no decisions w/ a team that can't score runs. He's got good stuff and on a more successful team, he might have got more notice.
Yes...Webb kind of deserves the award, even if it is because no one pulled away with the award this year. Webb is still a better choice than Carpenter.
