"Short Stops" Around the League - August 30, 2006
- The Cubs and Pirates combined for 40 hits as Pittsburgh sent Chicago to its 6th straight loss, 10-9. Ryan Theriot had 5 hits for the Cubs, and Jose Castillo had 4 for the Pirates
- Chien-Ming Wang allowed just 3 hits over 7 2/3 innings to lead the Yankees to a 2-0 shutout of the Tigers in the first game of a day-night doubleheader in New York
- In the nightcap, Craig Monroe launched a 3-run home run in the 9th inning to bring the Tigers back for a 5-3 win. Detroit pitchers held the Yankees to just 3 hits
- Barry Zito won his 15th game of the season, and Jason Kendall and Mark Ellis collected 3 hits apiece as the Athletics sent the reeling Red Sox to their 6th straigh defeat, 7-2
- Dave Roberts had 4 hits, and Mike Piazza had a pair of RBI singles as the Padres beat the Diamondbacks, 4-1
- Shane Victorino had 3 hits, and Cole Hamels allowed just 4 hits and a run over 8 innings to lead Philadelphia to a 5-1 win over Washington
- Travis Hafner hit 2 home runs, but it was Jhonny Peralta's walk-off shot in the 10th inning that gave Cleveland a 3-2 win over Toronto
- Adam LaRoche hit 3 doubles and a triple while driving in 4 to help the Braves to their 4th consecutive win and a 5-3 victory over San Francisco
- Kris Benson allowed 2 runs on 5 hits over 7 innings, and Miguel Tejada collected 4 hits as the Orioles tallied 3 runs in the 10th inning to edge the Rangers, 7-4
- Roger Clemens, Dan Wheeler, and Brad Lidge combined on a 5-hit shutout of the Brewers, 1-0. Clemens allowed just 3 hits while striking out 9 through 7 innings of work
- Jermaine Dye had 3 hits, and the White Sox rallied behind Tadahito Iguchi's two-run homer in the 8th inning as the White Sox beat the Devil Rays, 5-4. Delmon Young collected 2 hits and 2 RBI in his second major league game
- Scott Rolen and Juan Encarnacion had 3 hits, and Albert Pujols hit his 39th homers as the Cardinals abruptly ended the Marlins 9 game winning streak, defeating Florida, 13-6
- Michael Cuddyer had 3 hits including 2 home runs, but the Royals rallied to support a strong performance by Luke Hudson and defeat the Twins, 4-3
- The Mets scored early and often to clobber the Rockies again, 11-3. Jose Valentin hit 2 home runs and David Wright added a grand slam as the Amazins won their 4th straight
- Rafael Furcal had 3 hits, including a home run, and Greg Maddux had another strong outing for the Dodgers as Los Angeles sent Cincinnati to their 6th straight defeat, 7-3
- Garret Anderson hit his 15th home run of the season, and Howard Kendrick drove in 2 to lead the Angels to a 5-3 win over Seattle
