"Short Stops" Around the League - August 22, 2006
- Albert Pujols and Carlos Delgado each hit grand slams, but it was Carlos Beltran's walk-off homerun that brought New York all the way back from a 6 run deficit to beat St. Louis, 8-7
- Scott Hatteberg and Adam Dunn homered and combined to drive in 7 runs, and Kyle Lohse shutout the Astros for 8 innings as the Reds crushed Houston, 14-0
Kenny Rogers and Fernando Rodney combined to pitch a 5-hit shutout as Detroit blanked the White Sox, 4-0 Vernon Wells homered and drove in two to lead the Blue Jays over the A's, 4-3 Carlos Silva allowed 5 homeruns, including 3 solo shots to rookie Nick Markakis, as the Twins fell to the Orioles, 6-3 Scott Kazmir allowed just one earned run and struck out 8 over 6 innings, and Greg Norton led the offense again to Tampa Bay's second straight win over Texas, 5-3 Hanley Ramirez homered and had 3 hits to propel Florida past Washington, 7-5 Danys Baez got lit up in the 8th inning to blow another good start by Oscar Villarreal as the Pirates rallied to beat the Braves, 5-3 Chris Capuano shut down the Rockies for 6 innings and Laynce Nix contributed 3 RBI as the Brewers sent Colorado to their 4th straight loss, 4-1 Jamie Moyer pitched 6 solid innings in his Philadelphia debut to pick up a 6-3 win over the Cubs Mark Teahen went 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and a homerun to boost Odalis Perez and the Kansas City Royals to a 5-3 win over the Cleveland Indians- Jake Peavy, Scott Linebrink, and Trevor Hoffman combined to shutout the Dodgers, allowing just 5 hits in San Diego's 1-0 win tonight
- Juan Rivera had 2 hits including a homerun as the Angels picked up their 5th straight win while sending Boston to their 6th straight defeat, 4-3
- Adrian Beltre capped a relentless comeback by the Mariners as Seatlle stunned the Yankees with a 9th inning walk-off homer, 6-5
