Padres Acquire Branyan


The San Diego Padres today acquired infielder-outfielder Russell Branyan from the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Evan Meek and a player to be named later or cash considerations. Executive Vice President/General Manager Kevin Towers made the announcement.

Branyan, 30, has played in 64 games for the Devil Rays this season, batting .201 (34-for-169) with 12 home runs, 10 doubles and 27 RBI. He is scheduled to join the Padres in Colorado tomorrow at which time a subsequent roster move will be made.
