Monday, August 28, 2006 Delmon Young Headed to Tampa Bay...Officially!![]() The Tampa Bay Devil Rays tonight announced that outfielder Jonny Gomes will undergo season-ending right shoulder surgery and have placed him on the 15-day disabled list. To replace him on the roster, the Rays have recalled outfielder Delmon Young from AAA Durham. He will join the Rays Tuesday in Chicago. Young will be making his major league debut at 20 years, 11 months and 15 days, the same age as Rays outfielder Carl Crawford at the time of his debut in 2002. The number one overall selection by the Rays in the 2003 June Draft out of Camarillo High School in California, Young batted a team-high .316 (second in the International League) with 108 hits in 86 games for the Bulls collecting 22 doubles, four triples, eight home runs, 59 RBI and 22 stolen bases as the second youngest player in Triple-A baseball this season.
