SWEENEY TO REHAB IN BURLINGTON Royals first baseman/designated hitter missed 75 games with bulging disk in back KANSAS CITY, MO (July 24, 2006) — The Kansas City Royals announced today that first baseman/designated hitter Mike Sweeney will begin his rehab assignment at Single-A Burlington beginning Tuesday, July 25. The longest tenured current Royal was placed on the 15-day Disabled List on May 3 and then transferred to the 60-day D.L. on June 16. Sweeney has missed KC's last 75 games with a bulging disk in his back. Prior to his injury, Sweeney was hitting .176 (12-68) with three doubles, two home runs and six RBI in 20 games for the Royals.
