Odalis Perez/Elmer Dessens Swap Teams


KANSAS CITY, MO (July 25, 2006) — The Kansas City Royals obtained left-handed pitcher Odalis Perez and right-handed pitchers Blake Johnson and Julio Pimentel for right-handed pitcher Elmer Dessens, Royals Senior Vice President-Baseball Operations/General Manager Dayton Moore announced today.

Perez, 29, is 4-4 with a 6.83 ERA in 20 games (8 starts) for the Dodgers this season. In 59.1 innings, he has allowed 49 runs (45 earned), 89 hits and 9 home runs. The left-hander, who is signed through the 2007 season, has struck out 33 batters while issuing just 13 walks.

Perez, 6-0, 220-pounds, has pitched in the Majors since breaking in with the Atlanta Braves in 1998, compiling a 56-55 record and a 4.24 ERA in 184 outings, including 153 starts. Between 2002 and 2005, his 3.70 ERA was ninth among all Major League left-handers with a minimum of 500 innings pitched.
