The Future is Now for Cleveland and Marte


CLEVELAND, OH --- The Cleveland Indians today announced the club has recalled INF Andy Marte from the AAA Buffalo Bisons. To make room on the 25-man roster for Marte the Indians optioned INF Ramon Vazquez to AAA Buffalo.

Marte, 22, has spent the entire 2006 minor league season to date in AAA Buffalo where he has hit .261 (93-357) with 23 doubles, 15 homers and 46 RBI in 96 games. Since May 26 Andy has hit .285 (55-193) with 12 2B, 10 HR and 25 RBI in 52 games and hit .304 (28-92) in June (10HR, 22RBI, 24G) to earn Topps International League Player-of-the-Month honors. The Triple A All-Star hit .275 (25-91) off LHP w/5HR & .278 (44-158) with runners on base. Marte was acquired in the off-season from Boston in a 7-player trade. Prior to being acquired by the Indians he was named the #1 prospect in the Red Sox organization by Baseball America.
